Western Avenue Corridor Study

Project Description

A five-mile stretch of Western Avenue between Addison Street on the south and Howard Street on the north can be characterized as a heavily traveled north/south arterial street flanked by larger-scaled, commercial developments that are often auto service businesses. The Western Avenue Corridor study analyzed the potential to increase density, promote a greater mix of land uses, and enhance pedestrian safety along this five mile stretch of Western Avenue while maintaining it as a main arterial street.

The 12-month planning process was led by the Departments of Planning and Development and Transportation. Latent Design produced a long-term vision for the corridor that included future land use and zoning recommendations, design guidelines, and potential public right-of-way improvements.
